about

what's ECRN?

ECRN is a consortium of NGOs, municipalities, associations and private organisations, spread across different European cities. These organisations organise cultural events, talks, tours and much more on rooftops. Scroll down for a more information and a selection of photo's taken at these events.

The European Creative Rooftop Network (ECRN) project pulls together knowledge, efforts, and local initiatives, to develop and share new methods for the sustainable and collaborative utilisation of rooftops in Europe. ECRN aims to consolidate a movement for urban design practices and lived experiences in cities. By developing new ways to creatively use rooftop space, we improve the quality of life in cities.

The network began its life as a project supported by Creative Europe, that ran from 2020 through 2024. As of 2026, the original group of partners is expanding to include other cities and organisations throughout Europe. Together we will explore even more of the possibilities of rooftop use. We will present this new iteration of the network in late spring of 2026.

The Creative Europe Project

The original project was implemented by 9 partners: Faro Town Hall (Portugal), Stichting Rotterdamse Dakendagen (Netherlands), Stadt Chemnitz (Germany), Stad Antwerpen (Belgium), Coincidencies (Spain), Urban Gorillas (Cyprus), Urban Scale Interventions Ltd (UK), Stichting Stadvinderij/ROEF (Netherlands), and Folkstadens ideella förening (Sweden).

The project consists of several work packages implemented by the different partners. Find a description of these work package and the partners responsible via the following button.
